General Education Assessment
To ensure that students are achieving the General Education Student Learning Outcomes, RIT engages in ongoing assessment of all 16 outcomes on a rotating basis. Faculty work teams developed outcome-specific rubrics and corresponding standards for success.
The General Education Committee (GEC) serves as the body of oversight for assessment, and the Office of Educational Effectiveness Assessment (EEA) provides leadership and coordination for assessment activities. Designation of courses as General Education is contingent on approval from GEC. Once approved, participation in university assessment initiatives is required for the course to maintain General Education status.
The general education assessment process is not designed to evaluate individual faculty, courses, or departments, but rather to determine students’ achievement of the outcomes and to support continuous improvement efforts.
