Gifts from Sentinel Society members provide the critical resources necessary for RIT to meet our most pressing and immediate needs. Together, these annual gifts, from more than 700 members, provide direct budget relief that allows the university to be nimble as we fulfill emergent student scholarship needs, unanticipated academic and student life opportunities, make life-changing international experiences accessible, offer powerful career building and research programs, and react to numerous unforeseen challenges our students face.

Becoming a Sentinel donor means that you will make a direct, immediate, and substantial impact on our students. Here are some examples of how Sentinel gifts have made a difference in the lives of RIT students.

RIT is shaping and strengthening education and workforce systems to advance DEI and prepare our students for productive careers and lives in a global economy. It all starts with ensuring our students access to critical DEI-focused programs, events, and the resources and tools they need on a daily basis while pursuing their education.

Sentinel gifts provide course-required textbooks, software, educational supplies, program-specific equipment, and Dining Dollars to students with urgent need.

The success of every student is RIT’s highest priority. From studying abroad, to participating in Student Government, attending campus events, and serving the local community through volunteerism, our students have countless opportunities to engage in an inclusive and empowering environment.

Sentinel gifts make it possible for students to find their place amongst hundreds of clubs and organizations and hone important leadership skills. For example, Sentinel funds assisted with the expansion of the Into the ROC program by increasing the number of opportunities for students to explore unique spaces and local attractions in Rochester, partner with diverse communities and cultures, and engage in critical volunteer work.

Sentinel funding within each of the colleges and degree-granting units remains a cornerstone of enriching the student experience across all majors and fields of study.

Key activities and programs that critical Sentinel funding helps make possible for students include hosting the Annual Women’s Leadership Summit, experiential learning opportunities such as Tiger Tank, the Student Accelerator Program, student travel opportunities to conferences and competitions like NYC Design Week, National Society of Black Engineers Conference just to name a few.

Support for RIT Athletics makes it possible for student-athletes to do well on and off the field enabling them to go beyond just winning games but empowering them to succeed athletically and academically. Through commitment and dedication, our student-athletes embrace their roles as some of the university’s most visible ambassadors.

Sentinel gifts provide financial assistance for diversity training for coaches and student-athletes; NCAA Division II National Student-Athlete Week initiatives and activities; student-athlete development programming, including academic prep sessions, leadership development training, nutrition education, and sleep hygiene seminars; general resources and equipment for 600+ student-athletes across 24 teams; and Monthly mental health/wellness meetings and training.

Recognition in RIT’s premier annual giving society is granted to those who make a five-year pledge to a Sentinel Society eligible fund, in an area of the university they feel most passionate about. Members are recognized in our online honor roll at the following annual gift levels:
