When I first set foot on the RIT campus as a graduate student, I was filled with excitement, ambition, and let’s be honest—a fair share of nerves. Coming to a new environment, adjusting to rigorous coursework, and finding a sense of belonging in a new academic community can feel overwhelming. But through trial, error, and a lot of learning, I’ve grown into my role, not just as a student but as your Graduate Senator.
That journey of growth and leadership has been shaped by the experiences and opportunities I’ve embraced along the way. Reflecting on my time here, I am proud of the work I’ve done and the impact I’ve made.

Serving as the Graduate Senator within the RIT Student Government has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at RIT. I’ve had the opportunity to represent graduate students, advocate for meaningful changes, and work on initiatives that make our university experience better. One of the most impactful efforts was advocating for increasing PhD stipends, boosting engagement in campus organizations, and pushing for graduate club fairs for graduate students to join and foster the community spirit across different disciplines. But my work is far from over. Building on these successes, I am excited about new initiatives that will further enhance the graduate student experience at RIT.
Looking ahead, I am currently working on reviving the RIT university-wide research magazine that will highlight the groundbreaking work happening across RIT’s colleges and foster collaborations across colleges. Research is one of the cornerstones of graduate education, and I want to ensure that our scholars receive the recognition and visibility they deserve. Beyond that, my focus remains on strengthening collaborations—whether between different academic departments, student organizations, or graduate students from various backgrounds. I’m also actively working on amplifying campus resources that can benefit graduate students, ensuring that we all have the tools we need to succeed academically, professionally, and personally.
With these ongoing efforts, I often reflect on the lessons I’ve learned throughout my own graduate journey. The challenges I faced taught me valuable insights that I hope will help others navigate their own paths.

Graduate school is a transformative experience, but it comes with its fair share of challenges.
Looking back, there are a few key takeaways that I hope can help you on your journey:
1. Engage in Campus Events
Some of my best connections were made outside the classroom at campus events. You never know when a conversation will lead to an opportunity!
2. Talk to Your Professors
Don’t hesitate to initiate discussions with faculty members. Whether it’s seeking guidance on research or exploring career opportunities, they can be valuable mentors. Let them see who you are and show them your passion!
3. Get Involved!
Joining clubs or organizations that align with your interests is a great way to build a support system and engage in meaningful activities outside your coursework.
4. Start Applying to Co-op/Internship Opportunities Early
The earlier you begin your job search, the more options you’ll have. Internships and co-ops provide invaluable real- world experience and open doors for future career prospects.
5. Networking is the Way to Go
Building a strong professional network is key. Attend career fairs, connect with alumni, and seek advice from professionals and professors in your field of interest. Career Services are a great resources to practice interviewing skills, review resumes and networking advice!
6. Be on Time & Stay Organized
Time management is everything. A well-structured calendar will save you from missed deadlines and unnecessary stress.
7. Over-Communicate, Especially as an International Student
Ask questions, seek clarity, and be proactive in reaching out to professors, advisors, and peers. Clear communication is key in both academic and professional settings.
8. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone!
Growth happens when you challenge yourself. Push your boundaries, take on new projects, and embrace opportunities that may seem intimidating at first.
9. On-Campus Resources—Use Them!
There are a ton of resources on campus to help you! If you’re struggling with something, chances are there’s a resource on campus that can assist you. Reach out to me if you’re not sure where to start!
