Welcome Scholars!

Each year, RIT welcomes students from our global campuses Dubai, Croatia, Kosovo and China to the Rochester campus for a unique study-abroad experience. We’re excited to welcome this year’s Global Scholars and Exchange Students to RIT’s campus!

Housing Options

All Housing options can be found here under the Residences Tab at the top. Short descriptions of each available housing options are below:

  • Six person suite with two bathrooms, four single rooms, and one double room. 
  • If you are assigned a suite in Global Village, there will be a shared kitchen/living area in the unit. 
  • Laundry is separate from the suite, but within the building.
  • No required meal plan.

  • Four person apartment with two double rooms and one bathroom, with a shared kitchen/living area in the unit. 
  • Laundry facilities are separate from the apartment.
  • No required meal plan.

  • Four person apartment with four single rooms and two bathrooms, with a shared kitchen/living area in the unit and in-apartment laundry facilities.
  • No required meal plan.

  • Three or four person apartments (2 Bedroom Townhouse and 3 Bedroom Townhouse). 2 bedroom townhouses will have one single room and one double, and 3 bedroom townhouses will have two singles and one double room. There is a shared kitchen/living area in the unit.

  • No required meal plan.
  • Floor plans
  • A double room at the RIT Inn and Conference Center, located approximately 10-minutes from campus. There is a bathroom in the room.

  • A single room with a bathroom on-campus near to the Residence Halls.

How to Apply

You are encouraged to complete an application even if you’re exploring off campus options. If you find that you do not need RIT Housing, you must cancel your contract prior to the start of the semester to avoid a fee.

Assignments are made from now until the beginning of the semester on a rolling basis. Your preferences are taken into consideration but not guaranteed as we work to assign students based on space availability. Once you are assigned, you’ll receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to view your room and roommate details.

  1. On the RIT authentication page, enter your RIT computer account username and password; then click Log In.
  2. 'On the home page, click Housing & Dining
  3. Select the 24-25 Academic Year

RIT Housing contracts are for the full academic year.

  • Global scholars coming for fall or spring semester only, will not be held to the full academic year contract.   
  • Global scholars who are coming for the full academic year will be held to the contract and the terms and condition 

**Your computer account signature is your RIT Username in either of the following formats: xx#### or xxx####. This part of the contract must be signed before I can begin to process your application and assign you.

Move-in/out and Academic Year Breaks

  • Move in for Scholars is Sunday, August 18th and Monday, August 19th from 8am to 4:30pm. All incoming students must sign-up for an appointment time on the myLife portal prior to arrival.  
  • If you arrive after 4:30pm please head to the housing office in Grace Watson Hall for Residence Life on-call staff until 11 p.m. After 11 p.m. you will not be able to check in and will be required to find alternative arrangements. A limited number of moving carts will be available at move-in and can be signed out at the RIT Housing office.

  • Fall
    • If you are not returning for Spring semester, the move out date for Fall is December 19th by 10:00 a.m. 
  • Spring
    • The move out date for Spring is May 10th by 10:00 a.m.

Terms & Conditions

When you fill out an RIT Housing Contract you are making a commitment similar to signing a lease. Review our Terms and Conditions and be aware of potential fees associated with breaking the contract.

You can cancel your contract with no fee any time before you receive an official room assignment.

Once you receive an email with your room assignment, you may cancel your contract with no fee if you no longer need RIT Housing and have not checked into your assignment.  After you pick up your key and check into housing, you will be held to the refund schedule outlined below.

1. First week of classes (100% refund) Fall August 26 - September 3, 2024 Spring January 13 - January 19, 2025
2. Second week of classes (75% refund) Fall September 4 - September 10, 2024 Spring January 20 - January 26, 2025
3. Third week of classes (50% refund) Fall September 11 - September 17, 2024


Spring January 27 - February 2, 2025

4. Fourth week of classes (25% refund) Fall September 18 - September 24, 2024 Spring February 3 - February 9, 2025

If you are no longer coming to Rochester for the semester, you need to notify us as soon as possible so we can help you cancel your contract with no fee.

If you have an active contract with a room assignment, and do not arrive to campus/move into your assignment; you will be held to a $700 no-show fee. 

If you decide to move off-campus after you have already moved into your RIT Housing assignment, you will be refunded according to the refund schedule in our Terms and Conditions (also shown above) depending on the week you move out and charged a termination fee of 50% semester's rent.

If you are in RIT Housing for fall semester and staying for spring semester, the contract is valid for the entire year. If you decide to move off campus for spring semester, you will be refunded according to the refund schedule in our Terms and Conditions (also shown above) depending on the week you move out and charged a termination fee of 50% semester's rent.

FAQ's

Once you’ve been admitted to the Global Scholar program or as an Exchange student, you will receive communication from the housing office when you are able to access mylife.rit.edu to submit your housing and dining application. The RIT Global office can assist you with selecting a meal plan later, should you want one.

Single means it is a private bedroom within a suite/apartment and double means a shared bedroom with another student/roommate.

If you agree to live co-ed, this means that you’re saying you’re okay living with students of the opposite gender. There may be a shared bathroom for males and females within the apartment/suite.

If you choose to live off-campus, you don’t need to apply for housing! We will need to know that you’re choosing to live off-campus, so please reach out to Grace McQueen at gmmapt@rit.edu. If you need help in the search for local apartments in/around the area, reach out to Mery Palarea at ritglobal@rit.edu for more information on local options.

If you’re applying for Fall only, you still need to fill out the contract for the Full academic year. You will not be charged a termination or cancellation fee for canceling your housing contract at the end of your stay in the Fall. If you’re arriving for Spring, you will only be charged for Spring.

Transportation from airports/train stations/bus stations to RIT’s campus is not offered by RIT Housing. Please reach out to inquire about arrival transportation for international students.

Linens are provided for incoming global and exchange students that live in RIT Housing through International Student Services. At the end of the semester, we ask that you donate your linens to our Goodbye, Goodbuy sale, if you’re able to. More information on that can be found here.

Please send an email to Grace McQueen at gmmapt@rit.edu with a request from both of you to live with the other person. Requests are not guaranteed based on space availability.

Yes! Your RIT ID will be available to you upon your arrival if you’re coming in the Fall semester and if you have submitted your photo to start.rit.edu. If you are coming in the Spring, or if you did not submit a photo by the time of your arrival, you can pick up your ID from the Registrar’s office located in the Eastman building across from the Student Alumni Union (SAU).

The charge for your housing will appear on your eServices account and can be paid there, as well. Specific information regarding payments should be directed to the RIT Global Office.

Yes! Before your arrival you will complete a Global Scholar specific pre-orientation. You will also receive information regarding orientation for international students and general new student orientation activities. You can find all of that information here.
