Benefits Related Information

  • Medical, Dental, Vision -  coverage ends on the last day of the month in which your termination of employment occurs. 

  • Beneflex - election ends on your last day of employment. 

  • Basic, Supplemental and Dependent Life and AD&D insurance - coverage ends on your last day of employment. 

  • Legal Services and ID Theft - coverage ends on the last day of the month in which your termination of employment occurs. 

COBRA Continuation of Coverage - Medical, Dental, Vision, Healthcare Beneflex, EAP

Federal and state laws allow you to continue your medical, dental, vision and Health Care Beneflex at your own cost and EAP at no cost. This is called COBRA Continuation of Coverage. You have 60 days from the date you lose group coverage or the date you receive continuation of coverage information, whichever is later, to enroll.

Life & AD&D Portability

Your Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance coverages can be continued under the portability feature at group rates without answering any health-related questions.  To continue coverage, you must complete and return the form enclosed with your benefits terms letter to Prudential within 31 days of your termination date.

Direct Bill Options

Identity Theft Protection - to continue coverage through direct bill, call Identity Force directly at (877) 694-3367.

VIP Services through Mercer Voluntary Benefits -  to continue coverage through direct bill, call Mercer at (866) 272-8902.

Benefits that cannot be continued after termination

Beneflex Dependent Care, Legal Services, Basic and Supplemental Long Term Disability cannot be continued after your termination of employment.

As of your termination date, you will not longer be able to make contributions to the RIT Retirement Savings Plan. If you have an outstanding loan, you should contact Fidelity directly to learn what your options are.

Employees who provide two week's notice before they leave are eligible to have their accrued, unused vacation time.  Employees that provide less than two week's notice are not eligible for their remaining vacation time to be paid out. 

There is no pay out for unused sick, holiday or reduced scheduled time. 

Tuition WaiverYou and your eligible family members may continue to attend any RIT tuition-waived classes until the end of the academic term in which you terminate. 

Tuition Exchange Your child(ren)'s eligibility will end at the end of the spring semester of the academic year in which your employment terminates.

Tuition Assistance - Your eligibility for tuition assistance ends on your termination date. 

Tuition Scholarship - Your child(ren)'s eligibility for tuition scholarship ends on your termination date.
