Bio
Bob Finnerty is RIT’s Chief Communications Officer, a position he has held since 2002. Finnerty is responsible for promoting and protecting RIT’s reputation via paid, earned, owned, and shared media. He advises the RIT president and administrative team on internal and external communications in the areas of public relations, media relations, publications, advertising, marketing communications, social media, and crisis communications. He also supervises RIT Sports Information.
Prior to RIT, Finnerty worked at the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle for 12 years, serving as a reporter and an editor. While serving as metro editor, the Democrat and Chronicle won four consecutive “Best of Gannett” awards and was named the Associated Press “Newspaper of Distinction” for New York state.
Finnerty is a graduate of Purdue University and also earned a master’s degree at RIT in multidisciplinary studies, where he focused on marketing as well as communication and media technologies.
