Amateur Radio Moon Bounce

Moon Bounce, or EME, is an amateur radio activity that uses high-gain directional antennas to bounce radio signals off the moon. Messages can be sent from any two points on Earth that can see the moon. Due to the distance, the signal must start strong to have any chance of arriving at its destination. By using computer-controlled digital transmissions, short messages can be sent despite the weak signal. We also mounted our antenna to a computerized rotating mount to allow us to accurately aim our signal at the moon. This exhibit will display the results of the a moon bounce as opposed to performing this live.
