Antici.. pating the Future: Rocky Horror at RIT
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a cult classic movie celebrating its 50 year anniversary this year. Despite the movie being fairly dated, we have continued to cultivate a thriving community on campus of LGBTQ+ students who use our shadowcast performances as a safe space. We have managed to keep the medium alive by keeping a finger on the pulse of what's trendy and interesting, as well as pivoting into safe-sex awareness. We do themed shows related to recent movie releases and pop culture trends to keep things fresh, and we receive condoms at the RIT health center to hand out at events. Our exhibit will feature the evolution of our props and costumes from the past 30 years, we will have zines with highlights of our cast and what we do, and we'll have Rocky Horror themed MadLibs and coloring pages created by our cast members. If we have a room, we want to project a recording of one of our shows for people to watch while doing the activities, and have dance steps taped to the floor for people to follow along.
