Aquatic Wheelchair for Zero Entry Pool

Location

James E. Gleason Hall (GLE/009) - 4th Floor

The purpose of our project was to create a pushchair for the Mary Cariola Center to transport their students in and out of a pool easier. The MCC is a school for people with disabilities and the students do not have a lot of motor skills. All of them have customized wheelchairs to get them around and aids to help them. Some of the students are able to go in the pool at the JCC in Rochester because they have a ramp for wheelchairs to get into the pool. The current product that they are using is a wheelchair mainly meant for older people or people with simple leg incapabilities. This is not a great chair to support the needs of most of the students who have little to no trunk support, and very limited mobility. The Mary Cariola Center asked for a chair that would be adjustable to different body shapes and sizes. Our wheelchair is a fully adjustable wheelchair meant for individuals to sit in while they are pushed into the pool. This chair is able to support the students fully with trunk, arm, and leg support. The students are also secured in the chair by a harness.
