Bat Bots

Location

Golisano Hall - Atrium 1940

The proposed exhibit is a video game that aims to give players an experience simulating that of the classic arcade games popular in the 1980s. The project pulls a lot of inspiration from games such as Duck Hunt, as well as others for their 8-bit aesthetics. Bat Bots is a light gun shooter simulator where you play as a security officer tasked with guarding a cybernetics research facility, but when the latest prototypes of cybernetic bats have broken out of their confinement, it's up to you to bring them back. Armed with your trusty stun gun, your goal is to stun as many bat bots as possible before they escape. The player should feel a pleasant sense of nostalgia when playing Bat Bots, as well as curiosity about what aesthetics and patterns will be presented and a competitive drive to achieve as high a score as possible. We hope this nostalgia will be somewhat bittersweet, perhaps reminding the player of the simpler times they enjoyed as a kid. We offer two builds of this game, one that is accessible through a website, and the other being accessible through a windows executable. This game is also playable through both mouse input and Nintendo Switch Joy-cons which are connectable via Bluetooth. Joy-cons are only supported through the game's windows build and does not work with the game's web build. Team that would be exhibiting has laptops and Nintendo Switch Joy-cons already at our disposal for attendees to playtest at the exhibit.
