Burnout Box: a Murder Mystery Capstone

Location

Liberal Arts Hall - McKenzie Commons

Burnout Box is my business, which I am starting through my capstone project. I write, package, and sell murder mystery boxes that you can play at a party. Everyone gets characters, secrets, and evidence to sift through. Guests can bond with friends while practicing their own creativity and critical thinking through gameplay, all while creating special memories with friends. My exhibit would have prototypes and similar deliverables that would show how I've developed the product with the help of RIT. I would discuss and outline my process, while also showing how interdisciplinary pathways (like SOIS) can introduce people to new product opportunities.

Company Logo

A first attempt at a logo for the company, where "Burnout Box" is written inside a black hole that looks like a circular burn pattern.

The first version of the logo, which I drafted in late January

A sheet that has polaroids all positioned in a grid, each with a headshot of a player and the name of their character

This is the suspect lineup from my first ever playtest, which took place at my birthday party. This is from the "Pinegrove Academy" box.

A whiteboard, titled "Who killed Petra?". Below the title is a lineup of polaroid headshots, and below the headshots are a series of notes in regards to each suspect.

Here is the suspect lineup, complete with notes, from the second round of playtests. This is from the "Children of the End" box.

A group of players are gathered around a table, looking at evidence.

This is the kind of thing you can find at these parties: smart-looking people examining papers, with suspicion in their eyes.
