CampNav: The Future of Universal Campus Navigation

Location

Traversing the RIT campus can be difficult, to say the least. With over 100 buildings and 1,300 acres of land, it’s no surprise that a majority of the student body has been lost at some point in time. No longer are the days of wandering buildings aimlessly searching for your class’ respective room number, especially with the oft-convoluted floor layouts and room numbering. Many students, even my fellow fifth years, get lost walking through the interconnected buildings, numerous tunnels, and winding paths. Not only are able-bodied folk challenged, but especially the disabled: constantly searching for accessible routes, elevators, ramps, working automatic doors, etc. CampNav is an interactive AR (Augmented Reality) application that allows for complete, uninterrupted traversal of RIT's campus and respective buildings. This includes seamless integration of indoor, outdoor, above-ground, and underground direction to bring you to YOUR destination. We aim to revolutionize campus navigation through our application, mapping and routing the entirety of RIT's campus and its infrastructure. With CampNav comes near infinite possibilities: live evacuation routes for campus threats, location broadcasting to public safety and emergency services, schedule integration for on-the-go pathing and class reminders (like pre-planning a trip through Waze), location sharing down to the exact classroom and building, and much, much more.
