Color Science in Lighting, Mixed Reality, and Coloring Books

Color Science encompassess any technology or application that involves visible light and color. In this exhibit, we will be showcasing how we learn about our perception of color across several different application areas. Lighting: Did you know that our perception of colored light works differently than typical light we might find in our homes and offices? We will show how different colored lights changes how we view different objects inside of a lightbooth, and let you change the lights to evaluate these differences Mixed-Reality: Mixed-Reality technology, like Augmend-Reality (AR) headsets, let us blend aspects of the real-world with additional virtual content. But, did you know that blending these things is complicated because of limitations in color technology? We will show examples of blending real-world and virtual objects, and let you adjust color settings to help us understand how to improve this kind of technology. Coloring books: Everyone might agree that coloring is usually easy, but what happens when you can't see the colors of your crayons? We will show what happens when we try to color something under unusual lighting. This is a fun activity for both kids and adults, and highlights different aspects about how color works!
