Competitive Gaming with RIT Esports
As you make your way towards our practice facility in Institute Hall, you will be guided by signs adorned with RIT Esports graphics and stickers. Outside the facility, you will first see monitors displaying Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and hear the clicking of controllers as visitors try their hand against one another in a 4 person lobby. Next to them, members of our Super Smash Brothers Ultimate team will help introduce new players to the game by teaching them the controls while providing tips for more experienced players. Walking past and into our practice facility, you will hear a cacophony of voices explaining different aspects of the club while the TVs on the wall display visitors competing in various games. You will be greeted by one of our club members who will help make sense of the space. To your left, six gaming PCs are set up with visitors stationed behind them, split into two teams and competing against each other in one of the several rotating games our club offers: Overwatch 2, Rocket League, VALORANT, Call of Duty, and Apex Legends. Similar to the scene outside, team members will be stationed around the area, providing insight on everything from how to play, the team practice regimen, and how to get involved with the club. When one game finishes, the winning team is given a choice between one of the stickers they saw on the signs leading to the facility. Nearby, members of our production team are set up on two other computers running a stream of the games and providing live commentary. Of course, another group of production team members will be around to answer questions and offer explanations about everything that goes into producing an esports event. To your right, five more PCs are set up on a table, featuring any one of our 19 games for visitors to try out. Further down the table, more club members are around to inform visitors about anything else they want to know about the club. Posters on the near wall offer explanations about how the club is structured, different aspects of competing in collegiate esports, and how to watch our games live on Twitch.
