Measurement of the Bulk Refractive Index of a Contact Lens

The metrology team at Bausch and Lomb does not currently have a method of measuring the bulk refractive index of a soft contact lens. The goal of the project is to design and build a benchtop device to that end. The MSD team was tasked with understanding the nature of the measurement process, designing a system implementing that theory, and building a working prototype capable of making this measurement accurately. The bulk refractive index helps determine the design, comfort, and performance of the contact lens by affecting its optical power, thickness, and light transmission properties.
