NTID Department of Engineering Studies
Location
George H. Clark Gymnasium (CLK/003) - Clark Gym
Visitors will engage with a variety of displays showcasing the innovative work of the Department of Engineering Studies (DES). At the exhibit, a video will be presented, detailing how engineering students manufacture parts through Precision Manufacturing Technology (PMT), Applied Mechanical Technology (AMT), Architectural and Civil Drafting Technology (ACDT), and Civil Technology (CT). This video will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the engineering process and demonstrate what students experience in the classroom. The exhibit will feature a range of hands-on projects, including machined and 3D-printed components that students have created. Visitors will have the chance to see senior projects from past students, giving insight into the depth and creativity fostered in the program. As part of this display, 3D-printed tiger models, a former student project, will be available as giveaways. In addition to the video and parts display, student ambassadors will be on hand to share their personal experiences in the Department of Engineering Studies, including stories from their co-op placements. Visitors will have the opportunity to hear firsthand how the program prepares students for careers in engineering. A special activity will also be featured in the exhibit: a 20x20-foot cardboard castle-building experience. This interactive demonstration will show how students apply critical thinking and teamwork to engineering challenges, with the guidance of faculty members. The entire exhibit will offer a comprehensive look into what engineering is all about, showcasing the innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills that the Department of Engineering Studies instills in its students. This initiative provides an inclusive space open to the public, where students can gather and engage in hands-on creation using LEGO components. The activity is designed to foster Engineering Thinking and enhance Engineering Creative Skills, allowing participants to explore innovative problem-solving techniques while building and designing their own creations. Explore the amazing world of architectural design with LEGO bricks. Discover how these simple bricks can be used to model iconic buildings, plan new cityscapes, and to unleash your creativity. See some small LEGO models created by students for inspiration and learn how architects, engineers, and designers use similar techniques to bring their visions to life. Make sure to visit the DES at Imagine RIT for their debut appearance, and discover how they are shaping the future of engineering!
