Observing Culture: Scavenger Hunt of Humanity

Location

Liberal Arts Hall - LBR 1251

This is an exhibit about culture. It will present examples of material culture (human stuff) and non-material culture (human ideas and behavior). It will also offer brief observation exercises that will hone the audience's observation skills. The lesson of this exhibit is to teach the audience how to notice things we humans take for granted about our culture. The key activity of this exhibit is a scavenger hunt festival attendees can complete as they experience the rest of the festival. Items on this scavenger hunt would include action items like...Listen for and list a language being spoken that is different from yours... Say thank you to someone using ASL....Have your photo taken near a campus statue.... Count how many colors are used in the Imagine RIT poster... List as many different building materials as possible you see on campus... What was your favorite food you ate today? ....etc., etc. Returning the completed scavenger hunt earns a special prize (RIT trinket/souvenir).
