Power Assisted Wheelchair (PAW)

Wheelchairs are essential for providing mobility and independence to many individuals. However, prolonged use can put significant strain on the shoulders, and navigating rough terrain, steep inclines, or long distances can be exhausting. While fully electric wheelchairs offer a solution, they are often bulky and expensive, making them inaccessible to many users. To bridge this gap, we have designed an affordable and accessible power-assist attachment that seamlessly integrates with a manual wheelchair. This device provides proportional assistance, reducing the effort required to propel the wheelchair while maintaining the user’s control and freedom to move wherever they choose.
