Reimagine the Ride: A Fresh Take on RIT’s Bus System

Location

Wallace Library (WAL/005) - Outside

In the summer of 2025, RIT will have a new contract for the operation of its bus system. This is the first time since 2015 that a contract like this will be signed. This is a once in a decade opportunity to change how RIT's bus system runs. This is a once in a decade opportunity to change how RIT's bus system runs, ensuring that it can meet the needs of students now and in the future. On the table there will be a tv with a 3d map of RIT's campus on top of it. The 3d map will consist of 3d printed buildings from various places like RIT's Campus, the inn, Perkins, Park Point, Province, Apex, The Lodge, Hill and Marshal. On posters behind the table will be various off campus lines such as our idea for a downtown route and the off campus express. The TV under the map will be used to show the different bus lines along with stop locations. The map will have 3 modes corresponding to the three phases of our bus system. Phase 1 is all about small improvements that can be done now at little to no cost for the university and require very little planning. Phase 2 is all about medium changes; these are changes that should happen in the next 2-5 years. These changes come at some cost for the university, possibly requiring collaboration with local government agencies and property owners. Phase 3 consists of large changes to the current system, which will need to be implemented for RIT to provide a bus system which meets the needs of the 2022 Campus Plan.
