Reusable Molds for Contact Lens Manufacturing

Location

James E. Gleason Hall (GLE/009) - Erdle Commons

Currently, the process utilized by many companies in producing contact lenses results in a large amount of plastic waste. Through a combination of novel materials, industrial expertise, and hands-on experience and testing, our team has been working to make the process more sustainable and more environmentally friendly without sacrificing functionality or quality. This proposal seeks to invite others to think about waste footprint by making “contact lenses” with gel nail polish and different types of contact lens molds with varying reusability. Not only will visitors learn about the process of contact lenses, but also choose for themselves what process or mold they think is best.
