Rochester Subway & Aqueduct Archive

Location

Gordon Field House - Main Floor

The Rochester Subway & Aqueduct Archive exhibit provides visitors with an interactive ArcGIS StoryMap experience featuring a dynamic historical timeline of the underground spaces that once housed the Rochester Subway system and Erie Canal aqueduct. Viewers can interact with uniquely curated and enriched media elements, including narrative analyses, photos, maps, videos, and VR captures. Visitors will learn about the evolution of these once-vital infrastructures and how Rochester locals have repurposed the abandoned tunnels throughout the 21st century to house spectacular and controversial halls of regional graffiti art. This project is a platform for bringing awareness to the city's "ROC the Riverway" and "Aqueduct Reimagined" initiatives. The Rochester Subway & Aqueduct Archive strives to educate communities about the impact and future of these historical, cultural, and artistic spaces as the City of Rochester embarks on this expansive revitalization effort.
