SMASH Experience for Girls: Sticky and slippery surfaces
Have you ever noticed how the morning dew beads up on the waxy surface of a leaf? Or how a bug can walk on water? Or how small raindrops stick to the window, but large ones run down? These behaviors can be explained by surface wettability. In this exhibit, participants will conduct a set of experiments to see how different liquids stick and slide on different surfaces. Then we will connect the physical concept of wettability to the mathematical idea of slope.
