WildThing Mobility Car Wireless Controller

Location

Gordon Field House and Activities Center (GOR/024) - Main Floor

Utilizing electrical, computer and mechanical engineering concepts and knowledge, we created a wireless joystick controller for ARISE Inc.'s adapted Fisher Price Power Wheels Wild Thing mobility car for children living with disabilities. The adapted WildThing currently employs a wired/tethered joystick, which has a restriction of 10 feet by the operator (usually the parent/guardian of the child). By transitioning to a wireless joystick, we aim to significantly enhance the experience and operation of the mobility car, ultimately providing the child with a more enriching and inclusive experience. At our Imagine RIT Exhibit, we will present and demonstrate the movement of the WildThing mobility device with the wireless joystick controller. Joining us will be our customer ARISE Inc. (approx. 3-5 employees), who will share the project's significance and progress. This project offers invaluable experiences that nurture the cognitive, social, and emotional development of young children.
