Wooden Mechanical Pinball Machine

This is a mechanical pinball machine, meaning it has no electronic components! Before all the flashing lights, beeping noises, and bright LED screens, pinball machines were a lot different than we see them today. The very first pinball games appeared in the early 1930s and didn't even have flippers. After it was launched, the ball would simply proceed down the playfield, directed by a maze of nails (or "pins") to one of several scoring areas. These pins gave the game its name! Back in the day, the components were shaped by hand, but I used laser cutters, CNC machines, and other expensive tools to make this one, which resembles a modern pinball setup. However, everything you see—ramps, flippers, bumpers—is just cut plywood, some metal rods, and a few rubber bands, but together, they create a fully functional game! Despite what most people think, pinball isn’t just random chaos. Skilled players can control the ball to aim for specific targets and use various techniques to influence where it goes! Visitors will get to experience pinball the way it used to be—completely mechanical, with no screens, no electronics, just physics and skill. They’ll get to play, see how it all works, and maybe even walk away with a few tricks on how to get good at pinball!
