Committee Charge & Goals
The University Survey Committee will review proposed new surveys; coordinate survey administration timelines; maintain an annual survey calendar; promote survey administration and best practices; and foster the dissemination and use of results. Recommendations from this committee will be shared with the IR Advisory Council for their endorsement.
The goal of this committee is to increase awareness around on-going campus wide surveys; improve survey administration practices & the quality of campus wide surveys with an eye towards equity and accessibility; and reduce survey fatigue and burden on our students and employees.
Scope
Any student, faculty or staff survey efforts that span across multiple units or colleges are advised to go through the University Survey Committee review process. Examples include:
- Surveys that are administered to an entire body of students, staff or faculty
- Surveys that are administered to entire subpopulations based on year level, gender, ethnicity, etc.
- Surveys that are administered across multiple units or colleges
- Surveys that have a broad purpose or used for institutional improvement
- Surveys that are to be administered to 2,000 individuals or more
Prospective students, alumni or retiree surveys are outside of the scope of this committee. If you are not sure whether your survey should go through the committee review, please email Institutional Research, Data and Analytics at instresearch@rit.edu. The need for a review will be made on a case-by-case basis.
Survey Review Process
Please contact your division representative and fill out the survey review form in consultation with them. Once completed, you can email the form to Institutional Research, Data and Analytics at instresearch@rit.edu.
University Survey Committee meets bi-weekly to discuss and review existing and new surveys. You may be asked to attend these meetings during the review process. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for the review process. Recommendations from this committee will be shared with the IR Advisory Council for their endorsement.

University Survey Committee review process does not include the delivery of a survey respondent list. To obtain a list of students or employees for your survey administration, please work with the other offices as needed. Student lists can be requested from the Registrar Office and employee lists can be requested from the Human Resources Office.
