    RIT student, USMC veteran a judge in AEOP-sponsored youth pin design challenge honoring veterans

    A U.S. Marine Corps veteran who is now studying mechanical engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology attributes his involvement with RIT’s Veterans Club for allowing him the opportunities to learn more about campus and get involved in the community – one which recently included being a judge in the We?Veterans Pin Design Challenge, sponsored by the Army Educational Outreach Program and Future Engineers. AEOP’s apprenticeships and fellowships division is housed at RIT’s K-12 University Center and administered on behalf of the U.S. Army.

    RIT-Rochester Prep High School Partnership gives students a preview of college

    Plastic pollutants, the coronavirus, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, the strength of nanowires, and why freshly cut grass smells the way it does—these are some of the topics students from Rochester Prep High School explored during a mentorship program with RIT faculty. They shared their projects and new perspectives during the RIT-Rochester Prep Capstone Showcase held Feb. 6 at RIT.

    RIT student to pursue career with DOD through AEOP apprenticeship opportunity, SMART scholarship

    Rochester Institute of Technology second-year mechanical engineering student Julia O’Gorman was in high school when her journey started with the Army Educational Outreach Program. Her apprenticeship experience happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant nearly everything went virtual, but used it to capitalize on opportunities that may not have been afforded to her otherwise – thanks to program leadership through RIT's K-12 University Center who believed in providing those experiences despite the obstacles.

    Middle school students in the STEP's robotics program participates in event at Spencerport High School gymnasium using robotics and computers

    STEP's enrichment activities allow local youth to tap into the minds of engineers and scientists with robotics, research

    Weekend enrichment activities hosted by the Science and Technology Entry Program, through Rochester Insitute of Technology's K-12 University Center, facilitates research and robotics experiences for students from partnering schools within Monroe County. They also get the chance to work alongside RIT students who help with their STEM endeavors. One year-long event is called, STEAM Saturday.

    McInnis, Salsbery to host JSHS information session for aspiring students

    Two outreach specialists with the Army Educational Outreach Program’s apprenticeships and fellowships are poised to host an information session about the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. JSHS is a global STEM competition for youth, which, according to its website, “challenges students from everywhere to achieve, and to build the skills that prepare them for college and career.”

    RIT student uses experience with AEOP to pursue career with the Department of Defense

    Through a series of opportunities as an apprentice with the Army Educational Outreach Program, Colin Vo, a third-year computer engineering student at Rochester Institute of Technology, is able to live out a dream he’s had since childhood. It allowed him to gain experience as a civilian working for the Department of Defense in a job that complements his field of study and provides a guaranteed full-time position after graduation.
