The Caroline Werner Gannett Project’s efforts to bring risk-taking thinkers in a wide variety of disciplines to RIT through its “Visionaries in Motion” series has been recognized by City Newspaper in its annual “Critics’ Picks.”

“Visionaries in Motion” was selected as the best lecture series in Rochester in the 2009 edition of the awards, announced in the paper’s Nov. 11 issue.

“For the past four years, no series has rivaled the breadth of luminaries comprising RIT's ‘Visionaries in Motion,’ part of the Caroline Werner Gannett Project,” notes the City article. “From high-tech innovators Ray Kurzweil, Rudy Rucker and John Maeda to eclectic artists Maira Kalman, Stefan Sagmeister and Lynda Barry, the series has brought some of the most fascinating people on the planet to Rochester.”

“Immeasurable thanks to City Newspaper for such a great honor,” says Mary Lynn Broe, the Gannett Professor of Humanities at RIT. “The Caroline Werner Gannett Working Group is very proud and excited of our four years of ‘Visionaries in Motion’ and especially pleased that the wider Rochester community is enjoying the lively, creative doers and emerging new ideas presented through the series.”

Broe created the Caroline Werner Gannett Project in 2006 and, with the interdisciplinary Gannett Working Group, brings to campus international scholars, authors and artists in lectures, colloquia and workshops that explore new connections across the sciences, technologies, social sciences and humanities. All Gannett events are free and open to the public.
