    Cultural exchange goes virtual for international game prototyping course

    As part of a gameplay and prototyping class at RIT this spring, 25 game design and development students got to participate in a virtual cultural exchange with 30 students at a Japanese college. The teams learned about each other’s cultures and overcame language barriers and time zone differences to create projects for a global game jam.

    Double celebration will honor 2020 and 2021 Davis Award recipients

    This year’s recognition of RIT’s Alfred L. Davis Distinguished Public Service Award winners will be a double celebration, as faculty and student recipients from 2020 and 2021 are honored April 13. Luane Davis Haggerty will receive the 2021 Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award, and Bhuvish Mehta will receive the 2021 Bruce R. James ’64 Distinguished Public Service Award. Thomas Warfield was awarded the 2020 Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award, and Çlirim Sheremeti was awarded the 2020 Bruce R. James ’64 Distinguished Public Service Award.

    Meet RIT’s global librarian Susan Mee

    Global librarian Susan “Sue” Mee plays an essential role supporting students on RIT’s international campuses in Croatia, Dubai, Kosovo, and China. Her position as library liaison for distance/online education took on a global focus 15 years ago when the university expanded its RIT Global presence.

    RIT student and alumnus follow passion for neurotechnology

    School of Individualized Study student Harrison Canning and his business partner, Colin Fausnaught, a 2019 software engineering graduate from RIT, formed the BCI Guys, which stands for brain-computer interface technology. They recently launched an online educational series to lower the barrier of entry and inspire others to join the field.

    RIT/NTID’s ‘World Around You’ platform chosen for Inclusive Education award

    World Around You, a multilingual platform created by a team at NTID, was selected as the winner of the Inclusive Education award by the mEducation Alliance. The goal of World Around You, or WAY, is to increase global literacy for deaf children by providing greater access to sign languages, early-grade reading materials, vocabulary, reading instruction, and digital games.

    RIT’s Nabil Nasr part of board advising federal leaders on top climate initiatives

    Nabil Nasr, associate provost and founding director of RIT’s Golisano Institute for Sustainability, is part of an advisory board, The CLEEN Project, which recently launched the nation’s first co-operative idea database designed specifically for federal leaders in the new administration and focused on providing actionable ideas to combat climate change and advance climate justice.

    After careful consideration, it has been decided that this year’s Imagine RIT: Creativity and Innovation Festival will be fully virtual for safety and planning purposes. The date remains set for May 1, 2021.
