No Tolerance for Racist Behavior; Off-Campus Incident

We write to inform you of a racist incident last night at an off-campus location involving an RIT alum making racist and vulgar statements directed at a current student.

Since learning of the incident, Public Safety has launched an investigation to determine if other members of the RIT community were present, and we have outreached to support the impacted student.

Please remember that support services are available on campus to assist students, faculty, and staff affected by a bias-related incident.

The actions of the individual involved in this incident are not aligned with who we, as a community, strive to be, which is a place where everyone is welcome and respected. We condemn all acts rooted in racism, bigotry, or hatred. Such acts do not represent our institutional values and further erode our efforts to make RIT a more diverse and inclusive environment for our university family.

Sincerely,
