RIT to host Security Print Technology Workshop

Lectures, hands-on sessions and live demos comprise four-day program

Security Print Technology Workshop attendees will learn about both the traditional graphic arts processes and digital printing technologies used to authenticate important documentation.

Rochester Institute of Technology’s Printing Applications Laboratory (PAL) will host an innovative workshop in June, bringing together leading security printing and technology experts for a four-day workshop designed to build attendee skills and knowledge on the latest technologies, applications and processes on both the supplier and production sides.

During the Security Print Technology Workshop from June 6 to 9, attendees will learn about both the traditional graphic arts processes and digital printing technologies used to authenticate important documentation such as passports and other legal papers. Presentations will also include an overview of security printing materials and print processes as they apply to negotiable instruments, travel and ID documents, revenue and brand protection labels, and official state and federal government documents.

The workshop attracts international, national and local document examiners, including those from border agencies, imaging technology companies, international banks and security companies, providing a valuable opportunity to network with field professionals from around the globe.

“Workshop attendees will gain an in-depth and hands-on understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of various security inks, papers, optical variable devices and specialized images,” said Barbara Giordano, operations manager for PAL. “Training will be provided on how to analyze the different print processes—including digital—and help decision-makers understand the optimal technology to achieve desired security results. The coursework and hands-on training are an ideal way to develop immediate skills and understand the best practices in the security print world with minimal downtime.”

Giordano added that workshop attendees will learn about the technologies currently being used to combat the rapidly growing worldwide problem of document fraud and product counterfeiting from such experts at the North American Security Products Organization (NASPO INTERNATIONAL) and Document Security Alliance (DSA).

The seminar will take place inside the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies at Louise M. Slaughter Hall on the RIT campus. The fee for the program is $1,495.
