RIT hosts Thank A Giver (TAG) Day on Wednesday

Anyone who takes a picture of or with a tag thanking RIT donors for their support and posts it on social media on Feb. 11 or 12 using #RITTAGDAY will be entered into a drawing to win RIT swag.

The Fund for RIT will host the university’s second annual Thank A Giver (TAG) Day from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Campus Center. The event highlights the impact of donor support on the RIT experience.

One thousand red tags will be placed throughout campus buildings, classrooms and labs to show the many ways that donor generosity supports RIT. At the Campus Center, TAG Day activities will include a donor “thank you” note writing station, games to educate university members on annual giving and the opportunity to make a gift to RIT. In addition, the first 150 attendees to complete donor appreciation activities will receive a free T-shirt.

A special Faculty and Staff Donor Appreciation Breakfast will be held in the University Gallery at 9:30 a.m., where President Destler will personally thank RIT faculty and staff for their contributions to the university. Attendees will also meet a current RIT student whose education was made possible through donor support.

“TAG Day was a huge success last year,” said Freddie Frey ’09 (communication and new media technologies), associate director of Student and Recent Alumni Giving. “It was wonderful to see the Campus Center packed with students thanking donors for all they do for RIT. It’s not always something you think about when you’re a student on campus, but there are people giving money that directly helps scholarships, improves programs and facilities and enhances student life. Continuing to foster this awareness and appreciation of philanthropy is crucial for continuing to grow the ‘culture of giving’ on campus.”

Last year, with gifts from more than 12,300 supporters, The Fund for RIT raised more than $5.5 million in support of colleges and academic programs, scholarships, student life, clubs and organizations and RIT’s unrestricted fund for the university’s greatest needs and more.

“RIT is the unique, global university it is today thanks to the generosity of our donors — past and present,” said Frey. “Annual giving is vital because it helps to bridge the gap between tuition revenues and the actual cost of an RIT education, ensuring that our students have access to a first-rate education.”
