ROAR Day, Oct. 2, is the official launch of the 2014 Fund for RIT annual giving campaign. Several campus leaders are offering matching gifts for donations of $5 to $40.

We are RIT Tigers; hear us roar on Oct. 2!

That’s tomorrow, and it will mark the university’s ninth annual ROAR Day, the official launch of our 2014 Fund for RIT annual giving campaign. The day gets its name from the fund’s goal: Raise Our Annual Responses in support of RIT.

This year includes an even bigger list of campus leaders offering matching gifts to challenge the campus community to come together and support RIT on ROAR Day. Offering matching gifts this year are:

  • RIT President Bill Destler
  • Associate of the University Rebecca Johnson
  • NTID President and RIT Vice President and Dean Gerry Buckley
  • Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations Lisa Cauda
  • Associate Vice President for Campaign Management and Prospect Development Heather Engle
  • Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Jeremy Haefner
  • Senior Vice President for Student Affairs Sandy Johnson
  • Senior Vice President of Enrollment and Career Services Jim Miller
  • Vice President for Research and Associate Provost Ryne Raffaelle
  • Associate Vice President for Alumni, Parent and Annual Giving Programs Kim Slusser
  • Associate Vice President for University Development Craig Smith
  • Former Secretary of the Institute and Assistant to the President Emeritus Fred Smith
  • Vice President for Government and Community Relations Debbie Stendardi
  • Associate Vice President for Student Auxiliary Services Howard Ward

They will match all student, faculty and staff gifts made between midnight and 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 2, dollar-for-dollar, per person, up to $40. A $5 minimum gift is required for the match, and the match is only available during those 24 hours. Also, members of RIT’s Board of Trustees have issued a challenge to Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) alumni. Gifts made during the 24 hours of Oct. 2 by GOLD members (graduates between 2005 and 2014) will be matched up to a total of $20,000, as funds permit. (Faculty/staff alumni who graduated in that decade are eligible for both the campus leaders and GOLD matches.)

Stations will be set up across campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to encourage annual gifts to RIT, or gifts can be made online on Oct. 2. Donors can designate where their dollars go, and the matching gift supports the same fund designated by the donor. Undesignated faculty and staff gifts will go to RIT’s General Scholarship Fund; undesignated student gifts to the Student Government General Support Fund. All donors will receive a thank-you gift, and those contributing $5 or more will receive a sticker for a single-scoop cone at RIT Ben & Jerry’s, redeemable only on Oct. 2.
