Storm preparation
In the event of a major storm, how will you know if RIT is open or closed?
In the event of closings or cancelations due to inclement weather, RIT uses a “layered” approach to notify the campus community.
For more information, go to: http://emergency.rit.edu/information.php
Methods of communication include both internal and external channels, including:
• RIT Message Center: An emergency message is delivered via e-mail and to the MyRIT portal.
• Websites: An alert message is posted on the RIT Emergency Information website, the RIT home page, the RIT University News home page, and the RIT Public Safety home page.
• Telephone: A message is recorded on a Cancellation/Emergency Hotline: 585-475-7075 (voice), 585-475-7076 (TTY), and 585-475-2411 (RIT’s main number).
• Voicemail: A voicemail blast is sent to nearly 3,000 faculty and staff.
• External channels:

Social media: Twitter and Facebook
Newspaper (online): DemocratandChronicle.com
TV: Channels 8, 9, 10, 13 and 31 will carry closed-captioned messages during emergency announcements.
