Renovations to NTID performing arts spaces close theater this fall

Major renovations this fall at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf will impact several areas of Lyndon Baines Johnson Hall.

NTID’s Department of Performing Arts spaces are getting a facelift. The costume shop, scene shop, and dance studio will all be expanded and upgraded, and current department offices, dressing rooms, green room, and 1510 theater will be rebuilt. As a result of construction, Panara Theatre will be closed for fall semester and is expected to open in early 2023. Several NTID/College of Liberal Arts productions will be relocated to other campus venues during the interim.

In the interim, department offices and the costume shop have been relocated to the tunnels between NTID’s Student Development Center and Peterson Hall, specifically in office A145. The scene shop will temporarily share space with the Facilities Management Services wood shop in Building 99, close to John Street.  

“We are thrilled with the concepts that have been shared for our performance spaces upgrade in LBJ Hall,” said Jill Bradbury, chair of NTID’s Department of Performing Arts. “NTID performing arts is a hub of activity, creativity, and self-expression for both the Deaf and hearing communities, and we are happy that our much-needed enhancements fall in line with RIT’s overall commitment to the performing arts.”
