In October 2024 at the invitation of Vladimir Putin, the founding members of BRICS--Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa--formally welcomed five new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
