Decades as a successful internationally recognized artist have enabled Paley to develop an extensive personal archive. This rich collection reflects a range of studio arts, creative processes, innovative technology applications, and strong business practices.
Since the 1960s Paley’s work as an artist and educator has evolved and has manifested in various disciplines including the Studio Art Movement, decorative arts, design, sculpture, and public art in the architectural arena. Contextually, his career reflects some of the greatest cultural shifts in the arts during the 20th Century. During this period of time boundaries dissolved within traditional disciplines thereby creating a rich, multi-faceted exchange within the various professions.
Paley has enjoyed a long and productive relationship with Rochester Institute of Technology’s School for American Crafts. He has been a Professor and Artist in Residence at RIT since 1984 and he has shared his creative approaches and global connections with students and faculty. Three of his works can be found on the campus, including The Sentinel, one of his largest architectural commissions. His long-standing association with RIT makes this university a clear choice to house his archive and carry forth his legacy.
Education has been integral to my studio practice in academia and with lectures and conferences. The placement of my archive would be an important component to continuing the legacy.
