Platform
We value Organization, Communication, Representation, and Incorporation. We are committed to strengthening OUTspoken through these principles: In our elected positions, we aim to maintain organization by enhancing internal processes and ensuring the structured planning and execution of events. We will increase communication by expanding awareness of OUTspoken across all intersectionality's, fostering stronger connections within the diverse LGBTQ+ student body. Representation is at the heart of our mission as we strive to uplift and advocate for all LGBTQ+ students, focusing on amplifying the voices of People of Color. We believe in the power of incorporation, embracing the richness of our diverse identities and lived experiences to make OUTspoken an inclusive, welcoming space for all queer students. In her four years at RIT, Angelis has been involved in various organizations, including the ALANA Collegiate Association and The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, which are strongly connected to her cultural heritage. As her time at RIT concludes, she has spent a lot of time reflecting on being a Hispanic Queer Woman coming from a space that did not initially welcome her queer identity, the lack of representation of queer individuals growing up, and how she wishes to increase representation and support for those who may not get it elsewhere. Additionally, she hopes to be surrounded by individuals who strive to allow more open conversations and inclusivity and encourage a positive environment to learn more about the Queer community. Leonel has been very proactive since starting at RIT for a first year. He joined clubs like Model UN, Next Generation of Accountants, and Gymnastics Club and even co-founded (well, more like refounded) DECA @ RIT. However, one experience that stood out to him was his involvement with the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Resource Center and Outspoken. Being queer is something that he hasn't emphasized in his past positions and experiences. After arriving at RIT, he found spaces where he felt comfortable expressing himself and who he was, as well as people he could connect to and relate to in terms of experiences. That's why spaces like WGSRC and OUTspoken are vital to him; they allow him to express and talk about his identity and connect with people like him without fear. Taking a more active role in OUTspoken ensures that he can continue to foster that safe space and help others find his same sense of belonging.
