RIT Welcomes Incoming Students Aug. 30

Ritchie the Tiger will join faculty and staff to welcome the first-year class into the RIT community

Rochester Institute of Technology is preparing to welcome an estimated 2,650 freshmen on Sunday, Aug. 30. Students and their families will begin moving into their residence halls, located on the east side of campus, at 8 a.m. Students—52 percent of whom hail from outside New York state—will move-in throughout the day.

Despite trying economic times, this year’s freshman class projects to be slightly larger than last year’s. It represents 48 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands and 41 foreign countries.

Parents are invited to stay and participate in some of Monday’s orientation activities—which are highlighted by a convocation ceremony for new students and their families. The students will process into the ceremony during the annual “Tiger Walk,” where boisterous faculty and staff members line the walkway leading into the Gordon Field House to welcome them.
