Rochester Business Journal reports on Wayfair's gift of roughly $850,000 in server equipment to RIT’s Computer Science House. The donation was facilitated by RIT alum Fred Oettinger, who works at the company.  

RIT student Lazar Buntic received a earned a graduate research fellowship through the Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology program to develop infrared detectors for next generation telescopes.

New images from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope show what may be among the earliest galaxies ever observed. The images were taken from the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science Survey (CEERS), led by a scientist at The University of Texas at Austin. Jeyhan Kartaltepe, an associate professor from RIT, is one of 18 co-investigators from 12 institutions along with more than 100 collaborators from the U.S. and nine other countries.

When RIT’s Computer Science House put out a call for hardware donations last year, Fred Oettinger—an alumnus and staff engineer at Wayfair—got an idea. He knew that Wayfair had just what they needed. Wayfair, one the world’s largest destinations for the home, has gifted RIT’s Computer Science House (CSH) about $850,000 in server equipment.

This summer has taken third-year political science student Kaitlin Sommer from her hometown of Rochester, N.Y., to Washington, D.C. She has earned an internship working for U.S. Rep. Joseph Morelle, who represents New York’s 25th congressional district.

The Undergraduate Research Symposium, RIT’s annual showcase of innovative projects, takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 28 and more than 200 students are expected to participate. The event will feature some of the best in undergraduate research ideas and solutions.

Gabby Garcia, a fourth-year industrial design student, is one of six finalists in the 2022 Funniest Person in Rochester (FPIR) Contest presented by Comedy @ the Carlson. The annual competition is open to any Rochester-area comedians, and winners are determined through audience votes and a panel of judges.

Kamal Rana, an imaging science Ph.D. student from India, has been using his skills to help identify landslide triggers and develop models for forecasting landslides.

When audiences head to Cinemark theaters to catch a movie this July, they’ll also see a commercial produced by students from RIT and NTID. The short film, Say Cheese, was awarded the grand prize in the Coca-Cola Refreshing Films (CCRF) program.
