Concert series features Four Voices

Kathryn Cowdrick, associate professor of voice at the Eastman School of Music, performs Lee Hoiby’s Bon Appétit, an operatic spoof of The French Chef, Julia Child’s notable TV program.

Operatic arias, duets, a little swing and a spoof of Julia Child are all part of Rochester Institute of Technology’s third installment of the Performing Artists Concert Series. Four Voices features talents from the Eastman School of Music at 8 p.m. Dec. 14 in Ingle Auditorium, Student Alumni Union.

Eastman School of Music graduate students Adelaide Boedecker and Keeley Futterer, sopranos, and senior Sophia Fedderson, mezzo-soprano, will sing a medley of operatic arias and duets. The three voice students will then sing a little swing to introduce the second half.

Kathryn Cowdrick, an associate professor of voice at the Eastman School of Music, will perform Lee Hoiby’s Bon Appétit, an operatic spoof of The French Chef, Julia Child’s notable TV program. Cowdrick, mezzo-soprano, performed this work for Child’s 2007 induction into the National Women’s Hall of Fame—and can be expected to enthusiastically spatter the stage with flour and eggs.

Accompanist for the entire program will be Benton Hess, distinguished professor of voice and Music Director of the Eastman Opera Theatre.
