‘Freeze Fest’ aims to melt away the winter blahs

By the time February rolls around, many Rochesterians will have had enough of the blustery, winter weather and might want to hibernate until spring. But Rochester Institute of Technology’s Center for Campus Life and Division of Student Affairs are encouraging students to remain active by participating in the annual Freeze Fest celebration on campus, Feb. 4-6.

The event begins Feb. 4 with an outdoor snowboarding competition, Gospel Ensemble performance, and an RIT men’s hockey match-up against Air Force. The weekend’s featured entertainer is comedian Aziz Ansari, best known for his role as Tom Haverford on the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” Tickets for the 9 p.m. show—$17 for students with ID; $26 for faculty, staff, and alumni; and $41 for the general public—are for sale at the Gordon Field House box office. The festivities for the RIT community continue on Feb. 5 with a snow-sculpting competition, carriage rides, bonfire and pep rally, chili cook-off, dessert bake-off, and Global Union campus unification celebration. Activities conclude on Feb. 6, with a 5K race beginning at 10 a.m. and Student Government Super Bowl Extravaganza at 5 p.m. in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center.
