Meet this year’s Mud Tug co-chair

Jenna Deutsch has participated in RIT’s annual Mud Tug every year she has been here. This year she is a Mud Tug co-chair, working with Justyn Carll from Phi Kappa Psi, to organize the down-and-dirty event, which takes place Saturday in the field behind Gracie’s.

Question: Where are you from?
Answer: Warren, N.J. And no, I do not live my life like the Jersey Shore cast.

Q: What brought you to RIT?
A:I started to look at RIT because I was interested in advertising photography. I loved photography all throughout high school. Eventually, I decided that wasn’t what I wanted, but I did want to stay closely involved with it. I found advertising and public relations, which allows me to stay creative and work with photography.

Q: What are you most proud of accomplishing?
A: I am really proud that I went to Israel on Birthright this past summer. While there, I decided I had to stay longer, even though I didn’t have any plans or a place to stay. Luckily, my friends and I met two Israeli soldiers who helped us find an awesome hostel to stay at for a few nights. One soldier even let us stay at their house!

Q: What types of things do you do around campus?
A: I am a resident adviser for the Zeta Tau Alpha house. I am the philanthropy chair, Greek wear chair, house manager and public relations director for ZTA, as well. I am co-president of Lambda Pi Eta, the communication honor society. I am also the marketing/promotions director for RIT SportsZone, work for Sports Information and am a Discovery peer mentor.

Q: How did you get involved in Mud Tug?
A: Last year I helped to plan the 15th annual Mud Tug and I loved it so much, I wanted to take the reigns this year! I love what Hillside Family Agencies does and I want to make sure Mud Tug was the best it could be to benefit those kids.

Q: For those who have never heard of Mud Tug, how would you describe it in one sentence?
A: An all-out, 10-versus-10 tug-of-war competition in the mud, where the winners celebrate and the losers get dirty!

Q: What is your favorite part about it?
A:My favorite part is when I get thrown into the mud for the first time (no, this is not an invitation for someone to throw me in, but I’m sure it will happen).

Q: What have you added to the event?
A:Last year I came up with the idea for the “Dream Team.” Last year’s Dream Team had RIT President Bill Destler, Student Government President Greg Pollock and Ritchie. This year’s Dream Team looks to be even better than the last!

Q: What is your favorite part about organizing it?
A:I know I will be thrilled with the outcome and we get to help out Hillside.

Q: Any advice you would give to other RIT students?
A:If you’re planning an event, stay organized. Ask for help if you need it and use the resources we have on campus. Go big or go home!
