Nullsleep headlines Rochester Chip Fest

The third annual Rochester Chip Fest, a celebration of “chiptune” music and culture, will take the stage Saturday in the Al Davis Room of the Student Alumni Union.

Nine musical acts and three visual artists including Nullsleep, Danimal Cannon and Auxcide will perform for the festival. The show is free with an RIT ID or $10 for general admission. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the show begins at 5 p.m. Chip Fest is a collaboration between Rochester Chip, WITR-FM (89.7), College Activities Board and Electronic Gaming Society.

“Chiptune is a genre of music but it’s also a class of instruments,” said Ben Wheeler ’14 (computer engineering), head organizer for Rochester Chip. “It’s music that’s created using sound chips from old video game hardware like Nintendos and Ataris. Some musicians also incorporate other instruments and vocals as well.”

Wheeler recommended arriving early due to the popularity of the show. In addition to live music and visuals, retro video games will also be available to play courtesy of EGS.
