PostSecret Creator Frank Warren Will Share His Secrets at RIT

Creator of famous blog will discuss issues and experience related to the blog Oct. 26

Frank Warren, creator of PostSecret, a blog that allows its users to anonymously reveal secrets, will speak at RIT on Oct. 26 about his advocacy in suicide prevention and the vision that started it all.

Confess your depression, dreams, stories and experiences to the world, without ever having to reveal your face or name. Readers of PostSecret, a blog that allows its users to anonymously reveal secrets, claim that the postcards are inspirational to those who read them and create a community of acceptance.

Frank Warren, creator of PostSecret, will talk about his experiences and advocacy in raising suicide prevention and awareness 8 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Clark Gymnasium at Rochester Institute of Technology. From 9 to 9:30 p.m., he will be signing books at Barnes & Noble @ RIT.

“Frank will speak about how PostSecret began, the purpose behind it and his passion and work with suicide awareness and prevention,” says Paulina Evoy, director of College Activities Board, sponsor of the event. “There will also be a Q-and-A session and an opportunity for students to share their own secrets to gain support from their peers.”

PostSecret is an ongoing mail-art project where people anonymously share their secrets on homemade postcards. Secrets are then selected and posted on the PostSecret website, printed in PostSecret books, or used for the community’s museum exhibits. Secrets range from family secrets and funny memories to more serious issues including body image, depression and suicide. Since its creation in 2007, Warren has read and received more than 200,000 secrets.

In anticipation of Warren’s talk, RIT’s College Activities Board has launched its own PostSecret website.

Tickets are $6 for RIT students, $8 for RIT faculty and staff and $11 for the general public. Tickets are available at the Gordon Field House Box Office and can be purchased via Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.
