RIT a cappella group to perform at Fringe Fest

McKenzie Swift is a third-year criminal justice major. She is a member of RIT’s all-female a cappella group, Encore. Encore will be performing at this year’s First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Little Café.

Question: Where are you from?
Answer: I’m from Freeport, Maine, the home of L.L. Bean.

Q: What brought you to RIT?
A: I fell in love with the campus when I came for my campus tour. It was the day before I had to make my decision on where I was going to attend college. I had a meeting with a member of the criminal justice department and she really sealed the deal for me. I wanted a chance to take classes with professors like her.

Q: What is Encore?
A: Encore is RIT’s all-female a cappella group. We’re just a bunch of quirky girls who love to sing!

Q: What is your role with the group?
A: This year I have taken over the role of business director so I will be involved in the logistics of planning different events throughout the year, like our annual concert. As for singing, I am a Soprano 2.

Q: What has been your favorite part of being a member of Encore?
A: Encore fulfills my love of vocal performance, but it has also given me some of my very best friends. It gives me a reason to smile.

Q: How is Encore involved in Fringe Fest?
A: For the second year in a row Encore will be singing a 30-minute set at Fringe Fest. We’ll be at the Little Café at 4 p.m. this Saturday.

Q: What are you most looking forward to at Fringe Fest?
A: I’m looking forward to getting ourselves out there and making Encore more well-known in the community. Fringe Fest is a great way of learning about different groups and events in Rochester so I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully Rochester will like what Encore has to offer.
