RIT welcomes students back on Aug. 30

RIT students begin moving back to campus Aug. 30.

Rochester Institute of Technology is preparing to welcome back returning students to campus on Aug. 30. Beginning at 8 a.m., approximately 414 students are expected to move in to the newly constructed Global Village complex, the campus’ $54.5 million residential and commercial space.

Global Village residences feature 70 suites and aims to provide a global environment for RIT students as they prepare to enter the global community, travel overseas and join a culturally diverse workforce. Each residential and commercial location will represent different regions from around the world. Global themes will be expressed in a variety of ways through use of materials, patterns, colors, lighting, fabrics, finishes, décor, design, architecture and photography throughout all residential and commercials spaces.

RIT also welcomes its first-year students to campus Sept. 1. An estimated 2,600 freshmen will begin moving into their residence halls, located on the east side of campus, at 9 a.m.

Parents are invited to stay and participate in some of Wednesday’s orientation activities such as the RIT Resource Fair in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. Welcome-week activities culminate with a convocation ceremony for new students and their families at 9:45 a.m. Sept. 2. The students will process into the ceremony during the annual “Tiger Walk,” where boisterous faculty and staff members line the walkway leading into the Gordon Field House to welcome them.
