Student helping to plan annual winter event

Fourth-year student Sarah Niedzwiecki has been helping to plan the fifth-annual FreezeFest.

Sarah Niedzwiecki is a fourth-year hospitality service management student. As a member of the College Activities Board, she has taken on the role of helping to plan this year’s FreezeFest, the annual campus-wide celebration to combat the winter blues. Niedzwiecki is also the Campus Relations Coordinator for RIT’s Hospitality Association and the Campus Scout for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.

Question: Where are you from?
Answer: I’m from Wallingford, Vt.

Q: What brought you to RIT?
A: I came to RIT for the wonderful hospitality program and the diverse community here.

Q: What is one of your favorite memories from your time at RIT?
A: Honestly, not only attending the major events and concerts put on by CAB, but being a part of the planning process and working. Being behind stage for the FUN. and Macklemore concerts were some of the best moments of my life.

Q: What duties does being the recreation travel and special events manager for CAB have?
A: I have many responsibilities, such as contacting vendors, starting contracts, making sure all major and minor details are set before each event and on top of that, staying within a budget. It’s a lot of work but it’s fun!

Q: What is your role with this year’s FreezeFest?
A: I am planning the events for CAB and looking for co-sponsorships for other events that will take place during the festival.

Q: Why did you want to get involved with FreezeFest?
A: Since I’m a student, I have a better understanding of what the students want and enjoy on this campus. But most of all, I wanted to challenge myself. The past quarters, I was planning events that would happen a few times each month, but planning a variety of events that take place over two to three days was something I definitely wanted to try.

Q: What are some of the big events at this year’s FreezeFest?
A: We have a huge human snow globe that people can actually fit inside of, we have the larger-than-life size tiger ice sculpture that’s being carved and Rail Jam is happening again this year, too. There are so many more events, but you will just have to attend the festival to see them all!

Q: What are you most looking forward to about this year’s event?
A: I’m just really looking forward to the students having fun, honestly. Seeing people having a good time always makes me feel like all the hard work I put into it has paid off.

Q: Why do you think students should go to FreezeFest?
A: Well, this year it’s going to be huge! There’s free food, giveaways and a lot of activities that will keep students busy for hours! Stuffing a tiger, being inside a snow globe and having a caricature artist will give students a chance to take something back home with them, too.

Q: What do you like to do outside of classes?
A: I’m addicted to working out at the gym here on campus and I love enjoying the outdoors by hiking or running. I also like to go to different cafes and restaurants with my friends.

Q: What do you plan to do after graduation?
A: I’m really hoping to work for a large company as an event specialist or planner and hopefully move onto wedding planning later on. Moving down south is my ultimate dream; it’ll be a lot different than the cold up here in Rochester!
