Women of Color (WOC) Hosts their first event
Belonging, Succeeding & Transforming with Dr. Valdivia
The AdvanceRIT Women of Color Advisory Board hosted Dr. Angharad Valdivia, Research Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The theme for the talk was “Belonging, succeeding, transforming: A path forward for academic advancement.”
Dr. Valdivia is an accomplished scholar, author of numerous books, including A Latina in the Land of Hollywood; Feminism, Multiculturalism and the Media; Latina/o Communication Studies Today; and more recently, The Gender of Latinidad: Uses and Abuses of Hybridity. She served as editor of the journal Communication Theory and is a Fellow of the International Communication Association. She is currently Chair of the Latina/Latino Studies Department and Research Professor at the Institute of Communications Research, University of Illinois.
This event was organized by the Women of Color Advisory Board, which was established last year in affiliation with AdvanceRIT. It was made possible through an AdvanceRIT Partnership Grant and sponsored by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion and the School of Communication.
