Fall event review: Demystifying Faculty Senate Panel Session
The Demystifying Faculty Senate session was held on October 22nd. The purpose of the session was for faculty to develop a better understanding of the workings of the faculty senate, how they as a faculty can get involved, and the benefits of participation. The session answered questions such as: Who can submit a charge to the senate? When and how does one do this?; Can anyone attend a senate meeting? What should I expect if I do attend?; How and when can guests speak?; In what ways can I support my college senators and ensure my voice is heard? Seven faculty members attended with 43% non-tenure-track and 57% tenure-track. Participants were from CET, COS, SCB, RIT Graduate School, and Student Affairs. All of the participants who filled out the survey indicated the session was a valuable use of their time and helped them grow their network at RIT. Those that filled out the survey also commented that this session gave them good insight into how the faculty senate works.
