Celebration of Faculty Diversity: Chinese New Year
The AdvanceRIT Chinese New Year celebration was held on February 1st. The purpose of this event was to celebrate the culture and diversity of women faculty at RIT. Each Chinese New Year a different zodiac animal is celebrated, and this year was the year of the Tiger. Twenty-eight individuals attended and 64% of the participants were women. 25% were professors, 10% were associate professors, and 28% were assistant professors. Everyone who filled out an evaluation form strongly agreed that the celebration was a valuable use of time and either strongly agreed or agreed that it helped build their RIT network. Some of the participants highlighted the event by saying “learning about a new culture” and “Celebrating the what is important in my colleagues’ life” was one of the most useful aspects in the event. Overall, participants had a great time and would love to have more events that highlight Chinese culture.
